After two consecutive losses to the Saints and Cowboys, Tampa Bay’s postseason chances are in desperate straits.

Despite the NFC North championship game on Sunday night between 9-6 Detroit and 9-6 Green Bay, there is a scenario that could land Tampa in the playoffs.

And by scenario, I mean something that is borderline unrealistic. Here is what Tampa needs to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2007:

• A win over Carolina.
• A Green Bay loss
• A Washington tie.

Yep, they would need Washington to pick up a second tie, which hasn’t happened to an NFL team since 1973. Back in ’73, FOUR TEAMS finished with two ties. Football must have been awful back in then.

Anyways, Tampa would still need more to happen besides Washington to become the first team in 43 years to tie twice in a season.

They would need wins from the following teams:

• Dallas to beat Philadelphia
• Indianapolis to beat Jacksonville
• Tennessee to beat Houston
• San Francisco to beat Seattle

Again to recap:

• A Tampa win over Carolina.
• A Green Bay loss
• A Washington tie.
• Dallas to beat Philadelphia
• Indianapolis to beat Jacksonville
• Tennessee to beat Houston
• San Francisco to beat Seattle

If this all happens, not only should Tampa reach the playoffs, they should receive automatic admission into the NFC Championship game. If your team is that charmed, it’s your year.

San Francisco beating Seattle seems to be one of the most unrealistic propositions of the entire season.

Having said, there is no way in the world all of that is happening. Yet, it’s fun to dream, Tampa.
