Jimmy Garoppolo Believed He Was Better Than Tom Brady When He Arrived In The NFL…Sort Of, But Not Really

JimmyGSFBleacher Report’s Joon Lee wrote a pretty good article about San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and his rise to becoming a millionaire and a newly minted starting quarterback.

The story recounted Garoppolo’s feelings on being traded and how it went down including how much involvement he believed Tom Brady had in the proceedings.

Ah yes, speaking of Mr. Brady, one of the most notable parts of the story was Garoppolo’s comments about arriving to New England and his thoughts on their Super Bowl-winning starting quarterback at the time.

“Even when I was a little kid, my brothers, whenever we would play, I would literally always think I was going to win. I wouldn’t, but I would always think that. It’s like when I go to New England, when I first got there, I thought in my head, ‘I’m better than this dude.’”

Now, there is some context for this quote. Earlier in the article, Garoppolo said he knew Brady was the better quarterback going in but he couldn’t act that way. Instead, confidence was the order of the day.

So, while many Patriots fans are in a huff over Garoppolo’s comments, he didn’t truly believe he was better in the beginning.

Perhaps the more interesting note in this story is that Garoppolo stated that he and Brady were extremely competitive and there were times where they “wanted to kill each other.”

It’s not surprising that heat existed between Brady and his understudy. It will be great if these two could meet one day on the field but that meeting is likely to only ever take place at a Super Bowl. Right now, the 49ers and Patriots aren’t slated to play again until 2020.

Monday’s Bleacher Report article keeps Garoppolo’s name in the news. Last week, it was revealed that Garoppolo went on a date with Kiara Mia. While Jimmy G has been silent on the matter, she has opted to take a slightly different tact.

With Aaron Rodgers and Brady definitely aging, Garoppolo could be in prime position to become one of the NFL’s biggest stars.
