A new GQ article featuring Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey made some big waves on Wednesday when he criticized numerous quarterbacks around the league in a refreshingly honest interview.
Ramsey was about several quarterbacks, most of which he has played against at some point during his young career.
Some of the responses were predictable. He stated that Tom Brady (the guy who helped keep the Jaguars out of the Super Bowl) “doesn’t suck.” The same applied for Super Bowl XLV MVP Aaron Rodgers.
Ramsey spoke very highly of young stars Deshaun Watson and Carson Wentz. He felt both “will be an MVP.”
Other than those four guys, that’s about it.
The Jaguars star said that Super Bowl XLVII MVP Joe Flacco “sucks”. In fairness to Ramsey, his last look at Flacco was a bad one. The Ravens star went 8 of 18 for 28 yards with two interceptions. Joe Cool’s day earned a frosty 12.0 passer rating.
The 2016 NFL MVP Matt Ryan? He is “overrated”. Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning? Odell Beckham Jr. made Eli Manning.
He didn’t stop there. The Buffalo Bills selected Josh Allen with their fourth overall pick. Ramsey said “he’s trash” of Allen. Elsewhere, he “hasn’t heard good things” about Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill; and Ben Roethlisberger “was decent at best” and that he’ll probably be in Hall of Fame anyway.
How about rising star Jimmy Garoppolo? Meh, he is a system quarterback.
Meanwhile, Nick Foles was “good enough to win a Super Bowl,” which is another way of saying the Eagles quarterback was respectable enough to not ruin a good team.
The NFL Research Twitter account did a good job of laying out Ramsey’s performance against those quarterbacks:
Essentially, Ramsey’s good quarterbacks were good against and the bad ones were…a bit trashy.
The best part of this is when the receipt comes for all of Ramsey’s statements. One of the “bad” quarterbacks has to have a good game against him at some point this season, right?
We need more guys like Ramsey in the NFL. It makes the game a heck of a lot more interesting and fun.
