Clemson annihilated Alabama on Monday night during a 44-16 drubbing in the College Football Playoff National Championship game. Before and after dispatching previously undefeated Alabama, Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence drew high praise.
According to Bleacher Report, an NFL scout said the 19-year-old Lawrence could be the best NFL prospect ever:
“I don’t think that’s hyperbole at all,” one NFL scout told Bleacher Report. “With what he now knows, his physical ability at 19 years old, how he wants to be coached and wants to be great, his ceiling is limitless. He makes throws now that guys in our league can’t make.”
Lawrence, who threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns en route to Clemson’s second national title in the last three seasons, has to wait until 2021 to become eligible for the NFL Draft.
Nonetheless, the Tennessee native (whose stature somewhat resembles Peyton Manning) quarterback is drawing high praise from legendary NFL executive Gil Brandt, who said Lawrence was the best true freshmen quarterback he has ever seen.
I’m not sure I’m buying all of this Lawrence hype yet but anyone who rolls a Nick Saban-led operation for a national title just might be the real deal.
