Kyle Shanahan, Pete Carroll Among Head Coaches Fined $100K For Not Wearing A Mask

The NFL is not playing around with its mask wearing procedure this season as it relates to COVID-19. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the league is set to fine three head coaches and teams over failure to comply with mask-wearing procedures.

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, and Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio will be fined $100,000 each for not wearing a mask on the sideline during Sunday’s games.

Furthermore, the 49ers, Seahawks, and Broncos will each be fined an additional $250,000 for failing to adhere to league protocols.

Teams were issued a warning from Troy Vincent, the NFL’s executive vice president of operations, after some teams did not follow new mask requirements. The memo included a prescient quote from Vincent.

“Failure to adhere to this requirement will result in accountability measures being imposed against offending individuals and/or clubs.”

It should be noted despite Vincent’s warning, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and Las Vegas Raiders Jon Gruden seemed to jettison wearing masks as well for much of Monday night’s game between the two teams.

Don’t be surprised if the Gruden, Payton, the Raiders, and the Saints get fined as well for not simply throwing a mask on during the game.

Regardless of what side you fall on in the mask argument, the NFL’s action clearly shows they want to ensure this season reaches the finish line.
