The JMRA Hall of Fame – Nominee #2: Gun-Toting Saints Fans

This is the second nominee in our set of 20 that are eligible for the JMRA Hall of Fame. The five biggest vote getters will be admitted into the Hall along with the Editor’s Choice award winner. The JMRA Hall of Fame honors contributors to the National Football League; and/or an individual/group who enlightened society (most notably the website) through football or other means.

While their resume is not long or worth Nobel Peace Prize consideration, the Saints made the year of these crazed fans in 2009 by carrying the city of New Orleans to its first ever championship.

The story of these wild folks began well before Tracy Porter intercepted Peyton Manning in Miami.

Last November, a week following their dismantling of the New England Patriots, New Orleans faced off with the Washington Redskins. A lowly Redskins fan bet his buddies (all Saints fans), that the Redskins would end New Orleans’ perfect run.

If the Saints won, he would not owe any money but his friends would get to shoot up his television.

New Orleans won 33-30 in overtime.

Not to be outdone, that group held a Super Bowl XLIV party and decided to destroy more televisions beforehand. Instead of shooting the televisions this time, they thought dropping them from a plane and running them over with monster trucks were good ideas.

That is their portfolio and now, it is up to you…
