NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell threw the proverbial book at the Saints on Wednesday in a grisly conclusion to the Gregg Williams-led bounty program that was in effect from 2009 to 2011.

Soon after finding out the punishment, which includes a one-year ban for head coach Sean Payton, Drew Brees expressed his disappointment on Twitter.

It’s going to be a long off-season for the Saints. After being a Super Bowl contender and falling in the NFC Divisional round, New Orleans must press on without its leader for an entire season.

Certainly, those in Atlanta, Charlotte, and Tampa aren’t exactly sharing Brees’s sympathy.
