I don’t think the Patriots and Colts can follow what we just saw in Seattle but nonetheless, here we go for a berth Super Bowl XLIX!
6:56 – Both teams trade three and outs leading to the first pivotal play of the game. Josh Cribs fumbles a punt deep in Indy territory due to the slick conditions. Time for the Pats to go to work.
7:05 – Blount scores on a one-yard TD run after the original TD is called back due to the knee being down. Early lead for the Pats. This has a blowout feel to it already…but as we learned earlier, can’t count the old chickens too early.
PATRIOTS 7, COLTS 0
7:12 – Uh oh, Revis is injured…
7:15 – Now, he’s back. It marks the third straight season that the Pats top corner goes out at some point during the AFC title game. Weird.
7:18 – Colts stall in New England territory as former Pat kicker Adam Vinatieri misses a 51-yard field goal try.
7:19 – THIS IS COMING TO FOXBOROUGH…TONIGHT!
7:27 – Brady and the Patriots patiently move along into Colts territory utilizing a long throw from TB12 to Shane Vereen. It sets up Brady’s first TD toss of the day to James Devlin. Still plenty of time left but it’s looking ugly early.
PATRIOTS 14, COLTS 0
7:40 – Patriots force another punt from the Colts as New England goes back to work offense…Colts desperately need a turnover or Mother Nature to reach Foxborough quickly.
7:45 – Julian Edelman leaves with a hip injury which is very notable because New England only activated three wide receivers tonight. Now down to two since Edelman is questionable to return.
7:48 – Brady gets greedy and tries to jam a pass into Gronk near the end zone. It gets picked by D’Qwell Jackson of Indy. Finally, Indy catches a break. That’s their first interception since Week 15.
7:51 – An uncharacteristic mistake by Vince Wilfork. He throws a foreman at the head of a Colts receiver after the Patriots recorded a four-yard loss on the play. Rough.
7:57 – Big throw by Andrew Luck to TY Hilton sets the table for a Colts drive into New England territory. Colts desperately need six.
7:59 – Zurlon Tipton caps a 10-play, 93-yard touchdown drive with a one-yard TD run. Now, we have a game my friends.
PATRIOTS 14, COLTS 7
8:02 – Edelman is back in…
8:07 – Blount is such a tough runner. He looks ordinary at times against other teams but looks like Jim Brown against Colts. By the way, the Ghost of Jonas Gray is active today.
8:22 – Patriots barrel their way into the red zone. However, this final series is taking forever as the Pats go for it on 4th down and narrowly get the first down.
8:24 – Patriots run seven snaps inside of the IND 15 but can only come away with three points. That’s a glimpse of the future for the Pats should they win this game…
PATRIOTS 17, COLTS 7
8:27 – Big stand put together by the Colts to defensively stay in it. Need to get their act together on offense. Pats got away from the run in part due to using those timeouts.
HALFTIME: PATRIOTS 17, COLTS 7
8:54 – Patriots open third quarter with just any old scoring drive but a Nate Solder scoring drive. As Blount carries Patriots downfield, New England busts out their four down lineman setup and hit Nate Solder on a 15-yd TD catch.
Colts just weren’t paying attention.
PATRIOTS 24, COLTS 7
8:56 – This game has officially entered the danger zone for the Colts.
9:06 – Brady hits throws to Gronk and Edelman to move the drive deep into Colts territory. Moments later, Brady puts the Colts out of their misery by going to Gronk for a short scoring toss.
PATRIOTS 31, COLTS 7
9:15 – Andrew Luck tries Revis Island and promptly gets kicked off. Revis records the postseason interception and sets up New England with another scoring opportunity.
9:18 – LeGarrette Blount scores seconds later and basically puts this one in the books…if wasn’t already there.
PATRIOTS 38, COLTS 7
9:20 – The Patriots will drag the Colts to the finish line as the third quarter comes to its gory conclusion:
9:30 – Patriots in Colts territory again. Surprise, surprise, surprise.
9:33 – Brady has hit on 10 of his last 11 throws including two touchdown passes. Another completion to Julian Edelman sets up another score for Blount.
PATRIOTS 45, COLTS 7
9:41 – The downpour continues in Foxborough…Colts would probably like to call this game right now.
9:42 – I blame Indy’s performance on Belichick coming out in tube socks…
10:02 – The Patriots finally put the Colts out of their misery. By the way, kudos to the Patriots fans for hanging in their during a torrential downpour. Heading to a sixth Super Bowl is well worth it.
FINAL: PATRIOTS 45, COLTS 7
