Ric Flair

Happy Birthday, Champ: Ric Flair Turns 67

FlairThursday marks the 67th birthday of one of America’s great national treasures, the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair.

Whether he was winning world titles, talking smack, receiving death threats for supporting the San Francisco 49ers, hanging with Tom Brady, or leading his lovely daughter Charlotte down the aisle for her matches, Flair is a man of all seasons.

Let us pay tribute to The Man by taking a look at some of his greatest promos:

Ric vs. The VolcanoFrom December 1982: Flair is trying to avoid a title defense against challenger Kerry Von Erich. In the buildup to their Christmas Night showdown, Kerry’s father, Fritz Von Erich, tries to pin a bounty controversy on Flair. Watch as the man shows Fritz who is boss.

Enter The Dragon – From January 1989: A returning but unannounced Ricky Steamboat pins Flair on national TV during a tag match. During the post-match interview, Flair blows a gasket. He claims that these things “DON’T HAPPEN TO MULTI-MILLIONAIRES!” Tell ’em champ!

The Real World’s Champion – September 1991: Ric Flair’s intial WWE run in 1991 was somewhat weird because he never wrestled Hulk Hogan in a one-on-one match on a major show. Yet, when he first strolled onto WWE soil, Flair’s initial feud was with Roddy Piper. Flair doesn’t do much talking here. Instead, he’s just whippin’ some tail. This is an historic attack by Flair because I believe this marked the first time someone physically hit Vince McMahon on TV.

  1. Being from Florida, I saw a lot of Flair growing up on TV in the waning years of the “NWA era.” Didn’t realize he was THAT old, but an all-time great none the less.
