Hines Ward Is Out In Pittsburgh

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Wednesday that Super Bowl XL MVP Hines Ward will be released.

Ward, who played 14 seasons with the Steelers, was still under contract for two years worth a total of $8 million.

However, with the Steelers nearly $23 million over the salary cap and staring at potentially losing Pro Bowl receiver Mike Wallace, Pittsburgh needed to purge salary.

Following the grisly end of their season, Steelers management restructured the contracts of four veterans including Ben Roethlisberger and LaMarr Woodley.

Ward’s dismissal is the continuation of Pittsburgh’s much-needed youth movement for a team that appeared in two of the last four Super Bowls.

Last season, Ward, a two-time Super Bowl winner with Pittsburgh, posted just 46 catches for 381 yards and two touchdowns.
