The latest edition of wildly popular Madden Football video game franchise will feature New York Giants sensation Odell Beckham Jr. as its cover athlete after the second-year pro topped New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski in a fan vote.
The Giants wide receiver became the youngest player ever to grace the Madden cover since players started to appear on the cover in 1999.
Beckham Jr.’s victory means he’s a candidate for the infamous “Madden Curse” that has coincidentally hounded previous cover athletes.
In recent years, Seattle’s Richard Sherman and Detroit’s Calvin Johnson managed to avoid major calamities despite appearing on the game’s cover.
Madden NFL ’16 is expected to hit stores in the United States on August 25.
