Shula, who isn’t a fan of New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, opted to throw his two cents in on Deflategate in the days following the release of the Wells Report.
While beginning activity for 50th anniversary celebrations for the Miami Dolphins on Saturday, Shula described the organization’s events as “always done with a lot of class, a lot of dignity – always the right way. We didn’t deflate any balls.”
This isn’t Shula’s first go around with slamming the Patriots. He once referred to Bill Belichick as “Belicheat” in reference to New England’s Spygate scandal.
Shula coached the undefeated 1972 Dolphins, whom nearly saw their perfect record blown off the map by the Patriots in 2007 and has been somewhat insufferable about the accomplishment post-retirement along with a few players including Mercury Morris.
I doubt Shula’s negative words keep Belichick up at night. Despite winning an NFL record 325 games, Shula owns a rough 2-4 record in the Super Bowl and failed to reach Super Sunday in his final 11 seasons with Miami after leading the Dolphins to a Super Bowl XIX loss courtesy of the San Francisco 49ers.
Stand down, Don.
